I was talking to my brother last night about the ministry, and how sometimes it feels like we are running the ministry as a business in some ways. "we got more people to come out to xyz, so let's try more of that!" But what about the prayer? I realize that over time, it can become a logical thing, and we can miss out on the prayer and letting the Lord guide us in this. Before I used to look at YAM and it's success and pointed to a couple of factors that made YAM the way that it is now. Accountability and Prayer. It was easy for me to say, "yes, accountability is what made YAM the way that it is now!" And if we just got people into more accountability, that more people would want to come to YAM to be challenged and sharpened by the teaching and accountability that happens that night.
Prayer is important as well, as how are we supposed to know how to guide YAM to what God wants, if we don't ask Him?
It's been weighing on my heart more and more that we need the leadership of YAM to put a little more emphasis on prayer meetings, not necessarily for YAM (althought that probably will be the focus of a couple of the meetings) but also that it would be a time of prayer and worship specifically for the leadership is needed and necessary. It's hard to get that instituted, but once it gets rolling, it should continue without too much more effort...
Read through Luke and part of John yesterday. Really neat to actually sit down and read through the entire book in one sitting. You start noticing things about the book when you read it like that....things that you would not normally pick up. Like how Luke emphasizes women and the pivotal role that they play vs. John who is always talking about how Jesus is God. Different emphasis' for each of the books, which is very interesting.
