Reading Daniel 4 today and was realizing how much pride was a part of neb's life. It's hard not to when you're the ruler of the richest empire on earth.
At first, it's easy to think that neb was stupid in not acknowledging God for his riches, but how different is neb than us? Do not our hearts when someone says, "nice car" or "beautiful home" get a sense of pride when others say that? Outwardly we may end up sayng the 'proper' humility things of "it's nothing", or "praise the Lord", but inwardly do we not have that small little bit of pride? All neb was doing was externalizing what was already in his heart.
So this begs the question. Is pride bad in all aspects? Should we even be proud of our inheritance as sons and daughters of the Lord? I don't know if I can recall a bible passage that says that we should be proud of our inheritance. If anything we shouldn't be proud, but thankful. So does this make pride the 'black' sin with no shades of grey?
